Rumors have started to spread that Sony has begun its testing stage for a DLC expansion for "Until Dawn" called "Rush of Blood."
According to Destructoid, the DLC will be an on-rails first-person shooter that will utilize the PlayStation VR equipment. Reports on the DLC say that the content is in its very early stages, and is so far about 20 minutes long. Among the parts of the content that were playable, reports say that players are literally put in mine carts, hence the on-rails description, and are privy to several jump scares and quick choices.
However, there are also reports that the rumor of an "Until Dawn" DLC is actually false. According to Game Rant, the company behind "Until Dawn", Supermassive Games, has stated that it does not have any plans for the DLC content for its game.
The confirmation of this news comes from a recent Reddit AMA in which Will Byles, executive creative director, and Tom Heaton, design director at Supermassive Games, state that the studio has actually gone on to making a new game, and that fans of "Until Dawn" should enjoy it.
While the studio originally responsible for "Until Dawn" is apparently busy with its new game, this doesn't mean that Sony couldn't have another company try and make the rumored DLC content. A new company developing the game could be the main reason why the DLC is such a different experience from the original title.
"Until Dawn" is one of the more recent releases on the PlayStation 4 and is a unique addition to the Survival Horror genre. The game has been designed for replayability as designers have gone on to say that not all the game content can be seen in one playthrough.
The game also features a "butterfly effect" system, in which the choices the player makes earlier in the game could have an effect on the game later down the road. One example given is that the player could choose to leave a gun hidden on the path, which can be picked up at a later time if the player would be chased on that path.
As with other games of the genre, "Until Dawn" rewards or punishes gamers for the choices they make when dealing with other characters in the game. Certain choices could change the whole experience altogether.
