Verizon recently teamed up with Taiwanese phone manufacturer HTC to launch the Droid DNA, a 5-inch smartphone that boasts one of the most incredible displays around. If the phone has you intrigued, here's what reviewers and users are saying about it.
The 4G LTE-capable HTC Droid DNA costs $199.99 with a standard two-year contract through Verizon.
Reviewers
For the most part, reviewers don't seem to be 'wowed' by the Droid DNA. The display seems to be the handset's redeeming quality over issues such as a horrible battery life and non-expandable internal memory.
Website TheVerge gave the Droid DNA a score of 7.7 out of 10 and said, "The DNA offers a lot for the $199 asking price, but the miserable battery life and occasional performance hiccups are reason to pause before hitting that purchase button. But if you must be the guy with the highest resolution display on the block, the Droid DNA is the one to get."
"A dearth of storage space and a wimpy battery are among the Droid DNA's most notable misses, but if you're looking for a shiny new smartphone as we descend into holiday madness, the DNA is definitely worth at least mulling over" writes TechCrunch.
"If you can't wait past the holiday season, however, the DNA is our new favorite device on Verizon -- and unless you need to take advantage of a pen, this is a better (and cheaper) alternative to the Note II," reads EnGadget's review.
Users
HTC Droid DNA owners, however, seem to love the phone - for good reason. Most purchasers will be locked on to the phone's display and Android Jelly Bean features.
TrooprThorn on CNET writes, "There is no better phone out there. Period." TrooprThorn describes the excellent build quality and lists the non-expandable memory as the phone's only con. User mkutsen also lists the the memory and non-removable battery as the Droid DNA's only cons.
"Was hesitant because of battery specs but, battery hasn't been an issue. Size might not be comfortable for everyone," SandMan954 writes in a Verizon customer review.
Other users seem to love the smartphone's camera.
"The rear camera rivals the iPhone most of the time specially if there is any natural light. Night videos and photos are also very good. I think DNA is almost as nice looking as the iPhone 5 but bigger, stronger and faster with way more customizable options," says ewflex on CNET.
In the end, the Droid DNA looks like it will mainly be purchased for its display. Otherwise, if you can afford it, for $100 more the Galaxy Note 2 offers better battery life and the S Pen stylus to boot.
