HTC Droid DNA Vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 2: Verizon Wants You To Buy The Droid DNA, But Should You?

Verizon users have a great lineup of smartphones to choose from this holiday season. From the iPhone 5, to the Galaxy S3, Verizon has a robust lineup that should cater to all types of consumers. For Android fans looking for a huge screen, Verizon offers the two best choices on the market: the 5-inch HTC Droid DNA and the 5.55-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2. If you're trying to decide which one to buy, here's what they both offer. 

Before we start, keep in mind that Verizon is clearly promoting the Droid DNA above the Galaxy Note 2. Despite the Galaxy Note 2's earlier launch across four other carriers, Verizon chose to launch the Galaxy Note 2 in stores today, Nov. 29. Verizon even held a launch event specifically for the Droid DNA to tout its collaboration with HTC earlier this month. Despite the Galaxy Note 2 being a more high-profile device, Verizon has made no such attempts at promotion. 

But don't think there isn't good reason for Verizon being excited about the HTC Droid DNA. The smartphone offers an incredible 1080p display that pushes out more 440 pixels per inch. The handset also features a 1.5GHz quad-core processor running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, and 2GB RAM. An 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a  2.1-megapixel front-facing camera are also included.

The Verizon HTC Droid DNA is available for purchase for $199.99 with standard two-year contract.

The HTC Droid DNA is a fantastic handset if you're looking for a 5-inch LTE monster that will deliver crisp visuals. But if you're looking for a slightly larger, more immersive experience, Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 is the way to go, despite costing $100 more.

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers a 5.55-inch HD Super AMOLED display and a 1.6GHz quad-core processor running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. The device also comes with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9-megapixel rear-facing camera. The handset's true defining feature, however, is its S Pen stylus.

The S Pen is essentially a digital pen. It allows users to write, paint, color, and even preview apps. Samsung has even included a decent amount of S Pen specific apps that really highlight the potential of a viable electronic stylus. 

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 costs $299.99 with a standard two-year contract.

In the end, both phones offer 16GB memory and LTE support. Both are massive, and both run Android Jelly Bean. With a 1080p display and a cheaper price tag, many shoppers will turn to the Droid DNA as the phablet of choice, but if you're looking for a true hybrid smartphone/tablet experience, the Galaxy Note 2 is worth shelling out the extra $100. Besides, depending on what pants you're wearing that day, both phones will have a hard time fitting in.
