Earlier this month, both AT&T and Sprint released the LG Optimus G. While the smartphone is still incredibly relevant, it seems that LG is already looking ahead to next year. According to a new report, the LG Optimus G2 should have a 1080p display, Android 5.0, and a May 2013 release date.
The LG smartphone, called the Optimus G2 at the moment, looks like it will be packing serious specs and be releasing around the same time as the Galaxy S4 should, according to a report from Korean news outlet MKNews.
According to the report the LG Optimus G2 should be equipped with a 2.0GHz quad-core processor and a 5-inch screen that should push out 1080p at 440 pixels per inch. The device is also rumored to ship with Android 5.0, which has been spotted on other devices. No official information on the operating system exists.
The Optimus G2 will apparently combine various cellular frequencies, including LTE, on the same chip in order to improve battery life, according to the report.
The LG Optimus G just released in the United States in November, but it looks like LG will be attempting to coincide the launch of the sequel with other prominent smartphone players such as Samsung. The Galaxy S3 was released in May this year, and Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S4 sometime around May of next year. An LG handset launching at the same time would cull the losses LG experiences to Samsung in the Android smartphone market.
No other details such as pricing or carrier info is known at the moment. Keep in mind that this report has not been confirmed independently by LatinosPost at the time of this article. Still, it's nice to know what's around the corner, especially given LG's excellent Google Nexus 4 smartphone, which is currently experiencing serious supply shortages.
