With each new smartphone model comes better features and even sleeker design. Will LG deliver on those in the upcoming G5?
There have been whisperings of a late 2015 launch of the much-anticipated G5. As such, information leaks regarding the flagship handset have made the rounds on cybersphere in various tech news portals.
One of them is about the design of the said device, which reportedly may have a curved surface. Could this be a result in LG's rumored $1 billion investment in flexible display production?
"LG Display's investment will help pioneer future display technologies such as foldable displays and large-size auto displays," the company reportedly said in a statement, as noted by Phone Arena. "The main advantage of a flexible OLED display is the screen's bending feature that is achieved by the use of a plastic substrate instead of a glass substrate as in a conventional OLED display."
"The use of the flexible OLED technology is now being expanded to smartphone, automotive and wearable device displays," the statement went on.
Nevertheless, it is exciting to see what LG has in store for tech fans. After all, the G4 was praised by a number of reviewers as one of the best handsets to emerge this year. Perhaps its successor will outdo it, as well as and those released by its competitors?
"The upcoming LG smartphone will have a slim and an all-metal body with a curved surface," Venture Capital Post noted. "It will come in three variants - 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB versions."
"Its front snapper will be 10-megapixel with iris scanning technology for improved security and the rear camera may have 20 megapixels with laser autofocus, face detection, and optical image stabilization," it added. "It is alleged to feature a 5.6-inch screen with 3840 by 2160 pixels resolution and True HD IPS."
It will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and powered by the forthcoming 1.8GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with 3GB of RAM as well as Windows 10 operating system," it went on.
The said unit will also reportedly have a Touch ID feature and come with a 4,000mAh battery.
It has also been rumored that the device may be sold at $900 and will match Samsung's S6.
There also were reports that the G5 may ha e an iris scanner - a feature predicted to be ubiquitous in smartphones soon, just as the Touch ID is becoming a de rigeur feature in more handsets this year.
