Microsoft and Apple are going head-to-head with their latest tablets, featuring specs that almost fall within the realm of powerful laptops. Here are some details and comparisons between the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and iPad Pro.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is the tablet/laptop hybrid successor of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, which released in 2014. The Surface Pro 4 is thinner, lighter and more powerful and is expected to become available on Oct. 26, 2015, Tech Radar reported. Pre-orders are reportedly available beginning Oct. 7. The price will start at $899 up to $2,199, depending on the variant.

It has a resolution of 2736 x 1824 with a ppi density of 267 and an aspect ratio of 3:2, giving it more vertical space. There are six configurations available, featuring the Intel Core i5, Intel Core 97 and Intel Core M3. The internal memory ranges from 128GB to 512GB, although there are talks that Microsoft will also be unveiling a Surface Pro 4 with a storage capacity of 1TB. The RAM ranges from 4GB to 16GB, based on the same Tech Radar report. The device will last about nine hours of continuous use.

Microsoft is expected to create a new Type Cover, with redesigned backlit keys that incorporate a scissor design for users to enjoy smoother typing. It also has a redesigned trackpad, which is 40% bigger. The new Type Cover will still work with previous Surface models.

MacWorld revealed that the iPad Pro will come with a 12.9-inch display with a 2732 x 2048 resolution and a pixel density of 264.68. The tablet be available in three configurations.
