As if Samsung wasn't occupied with ongoing worldwide lawsuits against Apple, the South Korean company now has to worry about another patent lawsuit.
Ericsson has filed the necessary documents to sue Samsung for not renewing a license agreement in Tyler, Texas.
Samsung and Ericsson had a partnership but the agreement has since expired after their 2007 renewal.
"Despite nearly two years of negotiations involving the most senior management at both companies, Samsung has refused to renew its expired license to Ericsson's industry leading portfolio of telecommunications patents on the same fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms that Samsung's competitors have previously accepted," Ericsson said in the court documents.
Adding, "Samsung has sold hundreds of millions of unlicensed cellular handsets, smartphones, tablet computers, and televisions since the expiration of its license, including its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone."
In addition seeking a ban of the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy cameras, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Galaxy Tab 7.0 are also at risk if the court goes in favor of Ericsson.
The news comes as Latinos Post reported that Apple is requesting to add Samsung's S3, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi to the ongoing US patent infringement trial. Apple's decision comes days after Samsung filed court documents last Wednesday requesting to add Apple's iPad 4, iPad Mini, and the iPod Touch 5G to the list of products that might have infringed on the South Korean company's ideas.
Apple is going far to note that they will order a new lawsuit if these before mentioned Samsung products are not entered to the trial since the products involve "exactly the same patents, patent claims, and legal theories."
