Will Sony release a new PlayStation model?
According to a Sony boss, the answer depends on game developers.
"President Shushei Yoshida of the group of video game developers owned by Sony stated it is up to the decision of game creators if there is a need to create PS5, a need to have more machine power," Yibada noted. "In PS4, he said that there are things that they cannot execute with the latest gaming console, and it might be a good reason in creating another one, with a good vision from the creators."
Considering gaming innovations emerging in the last few years, it appears likely that there will be a need for a PS5 soon. However, Yoshida thinks otherwise, saying that it may take years before this iteration would be introduced to the public.
Meanwhile, Robbie Bach, for mer Xboss boss at Microsoft, was quoted by Pocket-Lint as affirming that the PS4 will not be the last gaming console from Sony, and that there'll also be a new Xbox console model.
"What the console looks like is a very interesting question. Does it have physical media? Probably not, so how does that look? Is it just a game box or is it more?" he asked. "What's the balance between what an Apple TV is and what an Xbox or a PlayStation 4 is? These are really interesting questions, and the teams [are] going to have to wrestle with those. That next generation will be a whole new game."
Will the new generation have virtual reality features?
Further, some rumors allege that the PS5 may be the cheapest generation of them all, as it may not have disc drives and will instead stream services, International Business Times relayed.
Considering disc drives are gradually becoming obsolete, it appears this proposition may become a reality in a few years' time. However, as what former PlayStation magazine editor Ben Wilson opined, they'll be around for a while for now.
"People love their boxed products and 'experts' have been predicting the 'imminent' demise of the CD for more than 20 years," Wilson was quoted by the news portal as saying. "There will always be those who prefer special editions and sexy packaging to invisible downloads!"
"It is those guys and girls who will ensure disc drives live on within gaming, in some form," he said in closing.
How about you? Do physical formats of games rock your boat or are you partial to the invisible download format?
