Although the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone model was very different than its predecessor, the Galaxy next generation S7 and S7 Edge will most likely maintain several aspects of their earlier model. A new render of the rumored 2016 flagship smartphone showed that it will maintain the beautiful appearance of the Galaxy S6, but still manage to pack several new powerful features.
Android Headlines provided a recent render of a device alleged to be the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. It will most likely feature a magnesium alloy body, similar to the Galaxy S7. The flagship model had a very sleek appearance. The power button is located on the right side of the device, while the volume rockers are positioned on the left. The SIM tray is at the top, while the USB Type-C 3.0 port and 3.5mm headphone jack are on the bottom.
The designer added some specifications to his concept model. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will feature a QHD Super AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM and the octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is set to release early in 2016. The processor is still in development but is said to be close to being finished, having already scored 75,000 points in an AnTuTu benchmark testing. There are also rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge might feature 6GB of RAM. The phone will also have a protruding 21-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and dual-LED, dual tone flash, and an 8-megapixel front shooter.
Yibada reported that Corning Gorilla Glass may be replaced by a stronger glass coating which is still in the works, referred to as “Project Turtle”. The new protective material should be available when the Galaxy S7 launches early in 2016.
Yibada also wrote that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge might be launched at the same time in February or March 2016. There are talks that the two flagship models will be introduced at the 2016 Las Vegas CES in late January. There are also talks that the Galaxy S7 will officially launch at MWC 2016 at an Unpacked press conference. Others say that it might even release two to three months earlier than expected, although it is more feasible to believe that the smartphones will not become available anytime in 2015. PC Advisor stated that the S7 might retail at £649 ($984) while the S7 Edge will cost more.
More news and updates on the upcoming devices are expected soon.
