While most Android devices are still playing catch up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google has already released Android 4.2 for its Google-branded Nexus series of devices. Now, just before December hits, Google has released a minor update, Android 4.2.1 for both the LG Nexus 4 smartphone and Samsung Nexus 10 tablet.
The update is an incredibly minor, but well timed, one. A little over 1 MB, the update fixes a small, but noticeable error Android 4.2 contained - the lack of the month December in the People app. Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 owners may have experienced this frustration while trying to add a December birthday to a contact's information.
As of now, it seems that only the LG Nexus 4 and Samsung Nexus 10 have started receiving the upgrade. No word on Android 4.2.1 for the Asus Nexus 7 tablet or the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, although given the relatively small size of the update, it shouldn't be too far off.
Google launched Android 4.2 alongside the Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 10 tablet earlier in November and introduced a number of new features. Multiple users can each have their own personalized account, and can log in or out of them much like on a PC. Game saves, settings, and even security will all be saved for each user.
Google Now, Android's voice assistant, has been improved, and will even suggest photo-op spots based on your current location. Android 4.2 users can then use Photo Sphere, the new panoramic photo app, and even upload their pictures on to Google Maps' street view.
Let us know if your Nexus device has received its Android 4.2.1 update.
