Microsoft's much-rumored upcoming tablet has not been released or announced yet, but it has since been pitted against a number of new slates, the iPad Pro being one of them.
With the unveiling of Apple's biggest tablet, pundits have begun comparing the device to the upcoming Surface Pro 4, as both apparently are hybrids - tablets that can work as laptops.
Which one is the superior device?
Display
At 12.9 inches and , the iPad Pro provides the most substantial screen display real estate. However, if rumors of a 14 inch Pro 4 version prove true, Microsoft's slate may prove to be the more "spacious" one, in therms of screen size.
Right now, it's been speculated that the Pro 4 may have similar resolutions specs as the Pro 3. Considering the iPad Pro has a resolution of 5.6 million pixels - more than the Pro 3's 3.1 million pixels, it appears Apple wins in this department.
Ports
The Cubic Lane said that the Surface Pro 4 will be winning pick among those in the corporate market, compared to the iPad Pro. One reason for this is the number of ports that the Microsoft slate has over that of Apple's.
"The Surface Pro 3 - which came out more than a year ago - has a full USB 3.0 port, a microSD slot, and a Mini Display port," the site noted. "These ports allow users to extend the storage capacity of the Surface Pro and to even connect it to a larger display for more real estate."
"The iPad Pro lacks all of these ports," it went on. "It only has a lightning connector port, which is Apple's proprietary connector for its products."
Microsoft - 1, Apple - 1.
Processor and Memory
It's rumored that the Pro 4 will come equipped with Skylake chips - the latest from Intel. It may also have RAM that ranges from 4GB to 16GB, and possibly a 128GB base model. The iPad Pro boasts the newest chipset in the Apple product line - A9X. It also has 4GB of RAM and a 32GB base model, as noted by International Business Times.
Looks like both brands are pretty much neck and neck in the engine department, although it's possible Pro 4 may edge out the iPad Pro here, if the actual product proves to be more powerful than speculated.
Price
It may appear that the iPad Pro (($799 and $949) costs more, if you get the optional Apple Pencil ($99) and the Smart Keyboard ($169). The stylus comes free with the Surface Pro (approximately $800), and you only have to shell out an extra $130 for the Type Cover.
It's also predicted that the iPad Pro may probably be lighter than the Pro 4, although it's been discussed that Windows 10 is a more appealing choice for those looking to use the slate for business or professional endeavors.
The verdict on which tablet is the superior choice primarily depends on the user itself. It would seem corporate professionals would find the Pro 4 a more appealing choice, while those big on entertainment and light computing may fine the iPad Pro a more suitable option. What do you think?
