Video game developer Ubisoft has confirmed that the latest installment of its "Rainbow Six" franchise titled "Rainbow Six Siege" will have no single player campaign.
In a report by What Culture, the game's Art Director Scott Mitchell discussed in an EGX 2015 panel that "there is no story mode per se" in the game, affirming that "Rainbow Six Siege" will heavily focus in its multiplayer gaming.
Nonetheless, despite having no campaign that will allow gamers to play by their selves, Mitchell cited that the game will be offering a custom match creation instead where gamers can play with AI teammates.
"You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. You can customize matches, so that's what we're offering on the single-player side of things," Mitchell said in the panel via What Culture.
Additionally, the art director also said that participating in custom matches is a good "training ground" as gamers will still be able to unlock the "same content" they could when "playing in PvP."
"You're still gaining stars, reknown points and new operatives," Mitchell furthered.
According to Game Rant, the abandonment of a single player campaign might root from the fact that the game naturally requires a clear focus and rigorous testing to ensure a smooth online experience. The report emphasized that this is the top priority for Ubisoft that leads to the decision of not including the story mode despite some players not really fond of getting stuck online in multi-players.
Nonetheless, "Rainbow Six Siege" is not the only first-person shooter game to delve from the single player campaign. As mentioned by Polygon, games such as "Star Wars: Battlefront," "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will have no campaign while "Titanfall" had no campaign at all.
Polygon, however, mentioned that the decision by Ubisoft to take away gaming is a clear signal of the changing and growing trend in shooter video games.
On the other hand, as highlighted by Game Rant, "Rainbow Six Siege" is currently in Beta testing and those interested can try and see what the game can offer. Although the Beta was launched earlier this week, Ubisoft has already extended the beta until October 1, 2015, which as cited by the report might be for additional hype and further testing.
The "Rainbow Six" franchise is a tactical first-person shooter game inspired by Tom Clancy's novel of the same title featuring an international counter-terrorist group called "Rainbow".
"Rainbow Six Siege" will be released on December 1, 2015 and will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
