Video game developer and publisher Ubisoft has already announced that "Assassin's Creed Syndicate" will feature its first dual protagonist that will give way to Evie Frye, the game's first female lead character. However, as it turns out, there will be another "first" for the game.

According to Eurogamer, the game will feature its first transgender character as Ubisoft pushes to a more diverse approach in the game.

The male transgender character named Ned Wynert will be part of the supporting cast of the game, as a quest giver for the game's protagonists Elvie and Jacob.

There are not much information revealed for the character, but Eurogamer noted that based on the scenes revealed, Wynert's story does not involve his gender and has not even been tackled in any scene.

However, "Assassin's Creed Syndicate" creative director Marc-Alexis Cote gave a hint about the character, citing that Wynert is the perfect manifestation of the "Victorian era" where the game is set.

"Inclusiveness is something that's super important for us as a team. We've made a good push towards diversity and how we approach different subjects in the game," Cote told Eurogamer.

Moreover, along with the introduction of the first transgender character, Ubisoft has also edited the opening statement of the game, reflecting the change of philosophy the game was taking.

Previously, as pointed by Eurogamer, the opening statement of the Assassin's Creed franchise says "designed, developed and produced by a multicultural team of various religious faiths and beliefs."

In Syndicate, the game now starts with the opening: "Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction was designed, developed and produced by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities."

"It felt like when we first wrote that for AC1 it was something that was very inclusive. But I've had the chance to work with more than 12 different writers on Syndicate. At one point, one approached me and said that we were not embracing diversity fully enough," Cote told Eurogamer when asked about the change in the opening statement.

According to Game Rant, Ubisoft's move to become more diverse in its "Assassin's Creed" franchise might have rooted from previous criticisms of its lack of female protagonist. The site emphasized that Ned Wynert will be a fresh addition for the game that has experienced numerous problems and criticisms in the past.

"Assassin's Creed Syndicate" will hit the market on October 23, 2015. It will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
