In the wake of Microsoft's invitation to an October 6 event, speculations of the release of the Surface Pro 4 swirled with more intensity. Could the company be unveiling their latest tablet model at the said event?

"The software giant is holding a press event in New York on October 6th to unveil a range of hardware running Windows 10," The Verge reported, adding that the Redmond-based company "looks set to launch its Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950 / Lumia 950 XL handsets, and a new Microsoft Band in the same hardware event."

"Microsoft isn't revealing exactly what the mysterious hardware event is about, other than a hint at Windows 10-powered hardware," the news source added.

We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices," the invitation had said, as noted by Tech Times. "Join us for the media briefing at the Skylight at Moynihan Station in New York City on October 6th at 10:00 a.m. EDT."

The upcoming event appears to have much riding on it, considering Microsoft's disappointing stint at the IFA in Germany just earlier this month. The company needs to deliver what many have been expecting, and that's the devices, like the long-awaited successor to Pro 3, tech pundits have been speculating about for about a year.

"The Surface Pro 4 could come in the same 12-inch form factor, in an effort to make it fully compatible with last generation accessories," Tech Radar relayed. "Internally, the Surface Pro 4 may also feature a Skylake Core M chip, though, its other specs will reportedly remain relatively the same."

"There have also been some more shaky rumors of a 14-inch variant - take that iPad Pro. This model would supposedly be a larger, high-end model," the site went on to say.

Some have forecasted that the Pro 4 won't be that much different from its predecessor, the Surface Pro 3.

"Microsoft has promised that it will keep the general form factor and charging mechanism the same for the Surface Pro 4, largely for businesses that have already invested in things like charging stations," Tech Times said.

"There will be a few changes to the device, however," the news portal added. "It's likely that the company will increase the display resolution and will make the device a little slimmer and lighter. Some expect Microsoft to also include a fingerprint scanner."

Will the Surface Pro 4 finally get unveiled in October? Will it exceed expectations? Tell us what you think!
