Game developer Naughty Dog might have let the cat out of the bag in revealing that the long-awaited sequel to their hit game "The Last of Us" might finally be in development.
Gamepur reports that during a live stream of "Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection" done by Naughty Dog's community strategist Eric Monacelli, writer Josh Scherr and lead animator Eric Baldwin, a small slip up was made hinting that the game is finally going to be made.
During the stream, which can be found on YouTube, Scherr was talking about how Baldwin has worked on the facial animation on Uncharted and the "First" of the "Last of Us" games. Viewers have said that while Scherr could have been referring to the "Left Behind" expansion, that is highly unlikely.
However, according to Naughty Dog, the official word for "The Last of Us 2" is that the game is not in production and there is still no clear release date, if ever the game does actually get made. Gamers are very prone to jump at any mistakes that developers might make when talking about games that they are very passionate about.
Currently, Naughty Dog is still busy with other projects, most notably "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," so fans of "The Last of Us" may have to wait at least another year before the company is ready to make any real comments about the sequel.
It is not uncommon for developers to wait a few years to make a sequel to a hit game, especially one like "The Last of Us", which opened to a very positive response. Developers like Bethesda can put 3 to 5 years between installments of their series, so fans of the game should not be worried.
"The Last of Us" could possibly be the best game that Naughty Dog has developed. The game has won numerous awards, and Naughty Dog even won Video Game Studio of the Year conferred by Cheat Code Central. The game was given a four-issue mini-series by comic book publisher Dark Horse Comics back in 2013.
Rumors of a sequel to "The Last of Us" have been circulating since 2013 when the game's director Neil Druckmann stated that the possibility of a sequel is about 50/50. On July 2014, then community strategist Arne Meyer stated that a sequel would be a great disservice to the game and its fans. However, in June 2015, one of the game's actors, Nolan North, stated during a Q & A that he was aware that Naughty Dog is doing a sequel.
