A recent common trend for upcoming games is to hold back the release date from fans for as long as possible to keep them on the hype train. Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 6" will happen, but the 'when' still remains elusive. Rumor has it that "GTA 6" will have a 1980s setting.
According to Vine Report, "Grand Theft Auto VI" will be set in the 1980s, but the city is still undisclosed. Further on, the report reveals little information about the game's plot, although word has it that the game will feature a female lead. Eva Mendez could fill this role according to rumors, which in turn could boost popularity of the game since it was not introduced on the previous installment.
On the other hand, previous reports mentioned that Ryan Gosling will play the main character for "GTA 6." The actor has already accepted the role, which means that if Rockstar Games intends to put a female protagonist in the story of "GTA 6," Gosling will have little problems working with his real-life partner.
In other news, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies has confirmed the news about the company not releasing video games every year, according to Day Herald. The report further stated that Rockstar Games made this move to prevent fans from getting disappointed over half-baked sequels to any of their well-loved titles. The unconfirmed release date for "GTA 6" will allow developers enough time to showcase a game where players can fully immerse themselves into.
While the release date for "GTA 6" still shrouded in mystery, the map also remains to be known. There have been rumors that the game will feature the entirety of the United States of America as the map. In a report back in 2013, Benzies said that they have their eyes set on London, according to Develop.
"For this one, we were down in London and the idea of the three characters popped up again," the Rockstar North president said. "We'd actually considered it for 'San Andreas' because there were three cities, but it didn't work from a tech point of view because the three characters need three times as much memory, three types of animation and so on."
Speculations suggest that the sixth installment of the "Grand Theft Auto" series will be out on 2018. Still no official statements were released to confirm the news. Stay posted for more details to come in the coming months.
