Fans of the Tomb Raider series are saddened to learn that game developer Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that there will be no multiplayer mode for the next installment in the long running franchise.
According to Tech Times, Crystal Dynamics is removing the multiplayer mode as they are trying to focus more on the campaign mode. Also, the video game developer stated that the multiplayer mode in the previous 2013 title, "Tomb Raider," did not do well and that the design team made the decision to scrap the multiplayer mode all together for the sequel.
The original reboot had four multiplayer modes; one was last man standing, another was point capture, while transporting items and flags consisted the last two. During these matches, players earned additional experience levels which allowed them access to weapons and armors not available during the story mode campaign.
All Game Beta revealed on their Twitter account that the main reason for this was to give players the best campaign mode as possible. This has been an unpopular decision with game makers as of late as the multiplayer mode can expand the life span of the game. Plus, it can give developers the chance to charge players for micro-transactions.
The campaign mode for "Rise of the Tomb Raider" will bring Lara Croft as she heads to Siberia to find the long lost city of Kitezh, which is described as an ancient city founded in the 13th century and is believed to have the key to immortality. She is engaged in a race against the Trinity, a well-funded organization interested in the supernatural, as she fights against animals, soldiers, and the environment to find the real truth behind the myths of Kitezh.
Crystal Dynamics said that some of the combat has been redone to make Lara stealthier as she now has more options such as using the environments to confuse and distract her enemies. It has been confirmed that the trusty bow and arrow will return from the first game; this time with more options as the bows can now be fashioned from several different animals and materials Lara can salvage. Her other weapons, such as the iconic dual pistols as well as her hunting knife, also make a return to the game.
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" has been confirmed as a trilogy of games which will cover Lara Croft's origins. Gamers should expect the game sometime in early 2016.
