Soon after Android 6.0 Marshmallow was announced, reports said 5.1.1 Lollipop will be arriving to Sony Xperia Z series devices "very soon."

Previously, in July this year, Sony said that version 5.1 would begin the roll out later that month to its Xperia Z3 and Z2 series.

"Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra are next up, starting over the coming weeks - followed shortly thereafter by Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3, then the original Xperia Z Series... with Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua after that," the company announced on its official blog.

The succeeding Android OS update version, 5.1.1, is said to be set for an OTA roll out. However, no specific date has been named.

"While Sony has just released a flash tool for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on its blog, many are still hopeful that the official over-the-air update will roll out to its devices," Venture Capital Post said. "The update is imminent to Xperia handsets, including Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z1, Z1 Compact, Z, Z Ultra, among others."

Android Lollipop 5.1.1 will help improve Material Design, making the user interface and the animations work more fluidly via new colors and themes.

"Other improvements include the device switch and sync device. Device switch allows switching content like apps, wallpaper and screen layout to another device, even take notes of the settings, Wi-Fi, and location. Sync device enables users to sync content to TV, watches, cars and other devices," the site went on to say.

Sony is also releasing a solution for the Stagefright issue for the Xperia series.

"The update is based on similar Android Lollipop version -5.1.1 but increases the build number to 23.4.A.0.580 from 546. Currently the firmware is live for Xperia Z3 (D6603), Z3 Compact (D5803) and Z2 (D6503) in regions including Three Austria and Vodafone subscribers in the UK and Spain," International Business Times said.

"This patch is only 2.6MB in size and updates all the 35 libstagefright libraries to the latest version from the Stock Sony 23.4.A.0.580 ROM - 2015-08-12," an XDA forum member noted. "This patch should work on all the Z-series that are already on v5.1.1 Lollipop and perhaps on some other newer Sony devices since they usually do share the same libraries."

Meanwhile, the Xperia T2 Ultra Dual is reportedly receiving version 5.1.1 these days. It's not known, however, on whether the T2 Ultra will get the same update at the same time, but is expected to happen soon, GSM Arena said.
