Verizon recently teamed up with HTC to produce one of the most powerful and eye-catching handsets around: the Droid DNA. A Verizon exclusive, the Droid DNA offers the most dazzling display on a handset available here in the United States, and for those interested, the device has gone on sale online.
The HTC Droid DNA is available for purchase through Verizon's online store for $199.99 with a two-year contract. The device will ship immediately, and will arrive at your doorstep in the standard shipping time frame. A quick call to the Verizon Wireless store by Times Square in New York confirmed that the device is not available for purchase in stores just yet. The representative informed us that it should be on shelves November 27.
The HTC Droid DNA features a 5-inch 1080p display that pushes out 440 pixels per inch (ppi), making it an incredibly handset for videophiles and gamers. Underneath the display lies a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal memory. The smartphone is also equipped with LTE, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The Droid DNA will be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and feature Beats audio.
On paper, this smartphone looks like it will be one of the hottest Android phones this holiday season. It's large size will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, but customers should remember that the two offer completely different user experiences. Both smartphones are massive, feature LTE and quad-core processors, and run Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, but it's the Droid DNA's cheaper price tag and display that will be its defining characteristics against the Galaxy Note 2's S Pen stylus and $299.99 price.
