The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot is looming far in the distance however, fans there are a few facts to be known. Forget the desire for any of the former heartthrobs to reprise their role in the major motion picture. Rumor has it the cast will be new faces to the franchise.
As Heroic Hollywood reports, a source in Los Angeles let it drop that the five teenagers will not be previous cast members. "They haven't officially started casting just yet on 'Power Rangers' but here is a little tidbit - it's expected to be all unknown actors for the actual Power Rangers as the studio wants them all to play late teens."
If this is the case, the studio will be relying on a stellar plot to reel back in their prime "Power Rangers" audience, who are now in their 20s and 30s.
Director Dean Israelite promised the film surrounding the spandex-donning super teens would be "mature but still playful."

Heroic Hollywood claims to have multiple sources to corroborate their findings. The plot will revolve around one of the first major villains of the 90s based action-show, Rita Repulsa.
Heroic Hollywood advises, the source describe her as, "A huntress. A striking, yet subtly alien-looking woman. She carries a metallic staff topped with a distinctive crescent shape. Advances with a soldier's confidence, guided by some sort of compass... Her staff is actually a device of immense power. She points it at the ground. Heads emerge, built layer upon layer like 3-D printing, made from the earth itself... The staff's technology grants her the ability to create humanoid figures, soulless and robotic."
The movie opens with Rita in the cretaceous period fighting the Power Rangers of that time period. Zordon, the red ranger of that time period, detonates a black hole and the rangers defeat Rita. The movie then launches 65 million years forward, opening on each of the teenagers. Jason is seen his texting his friend, Billy, while at a car dealership. Zack is at Dave & Buster's playing arcade games. The film then shows Kimberly hanging out with Jason, followed by Billy receiving a text from the pair saying they are on the way over to him. All the while Trini, the loner, is pictured doing yoga in the desert.
Billy and Jason head to a decommissioned military base where they find a T-Rex fossil and a power coin that belonged to Power Rangers from the opening scene. Jason finds more coins. He and Billy argue over whether they should take the coins or not. Billy throws the coins back on the floor.
Later on, Zack, Billy, Trini, Jason & Kimberly meet up together for the first time to save a young mom.
Meanwhile, in Russia, Rita Repulsa awakens and starts her journey to find gold.
The five teens wake up in their respective bedrooms with power coins. They also discover they have powers and abilities they did not have before.
Whether the rangers are able to fight off Rita Repulsa is still yet to be revealed. However, if this is truly the set-p for the 2017 reboot, what an attention grabber, right?
