Seems like Miley Cyrus had a lot to get off her chest during a chat with Marie Claire magazine for its September issue -- the 22-year-old star admitted her role in "Hannah Montana" caused her body dysmorphia.
The pop star has undoubtedly grown up in the limelight, starring in the hit Disney Channel television show as a preteen.
"From the time I was 11, it was, 'You're a pop star! That means you have to be blonde, and you have to have long hair, and you have to put on some glittery tight thing,'" she said on the role in which she played a brunette teenager leading a double life as a blonde singing sensation.
"Meanwhile, I'm this fragile little girl playing a 16-year-old in a wig and a ton of makeup," she continued. "It was like 'Toddlers & Tiaras.' I had f**king flippers."
Cyrus, who looks pretty confident parading around on stage in barely-there ensembles, said "Hannah Montana" gave her self-confidence issues, regarding "what she was supposed to look like" by the industry's standards.
"I was made to look like someone that I wasn't, which probably caused some body dysmorphia, because I had been made pretty every day for so long, and then when I wasn't on that show, it was like, 'Who the f**k am I?'" she admitted.
The "Wrecking Ball" crooner then expressed that even now, sexism in the industry bothers her.
"When you look at retouched, perfect photos, you feel like s**t," she said. "They lighten black girls' skin. They smooth out wrinkles. Even when I get stuck on Instagram wondering, 'Why don't I look like that?' It's a total bummer. It's crazy what people have decided we're all supposed to be."
In the same spread, Cyrus also slammed the industry for shaming her as a role model, who bares too much, while taking down Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video for focusing on using weapons for evil.
"I don't get the violence revenge thing. That's supposed to be a good example?" she added. "And I'm a bad role model because I'm running around with my titties out? I'm not sure how titties are worse than guns."
The statement is rumored to have started a rift between her and the country-pop star. With tensions running high and Cyrus getting more and more vocal about her feelings, the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards is sure to be interesting.
The outspoken crooner is set to host the ceremony on Aug. 30. The entire cover story will be available on Aug. 18.
