Samsung's Galaxy S3 has widely been considered the smartphone of the year. Despite the Apple iPhone 5 hogging up the airwaves, Samsung's flagship handset has made significant dent into Apple's smartphone dominance, even claiming the 'best-selling smartphone of Q3 2012' title.

For those who wanted a slightly cheaper and smaller version of the 4.8-inch Galaxy S3, Samsung recently released the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini in the United Kingdom and Europe. Previous reports indicated that U.S. consumers would probably not see the mid-level smartphone, but that's all changed thanks to @evleaks.

Twitter poster @evleaks has provided reliable leaks in the past, including information and pictures about the HTC Droid DNA before its official Verizon announcement. Now, @evleaks is reporting that a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini variant dubbed the 'Galaxy Axiom' is coming to U.S. Cellular.

The Galaxy Axiom isn't a carbon copy of the Galaxy S3 Mini, but the leaked specs indicate that it is essentially the same idea - a cheaper, weaker, and smaller version of the Galaxy S3.

The U.S. Cellular Samsung Galaxy Axiom will supposedly sport a 4-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 800X480. The Galaxy Axiom should also have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. Unlike the European Galaxy S3 Mini variant, which can be purchased in 8GB and 16GB models, the Galaxy Axiom will only have 4GB of internal storage. Instead of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Galaxy Axiom will be stocked with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Galaxy Axiom will also have a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, according to @evleaks. Luckily, it does seem like the Galaxy Axiom will come with LTE capabilities, meaning as U.S. Cellular's LTE network grows, Galaxy Axiom owners will be able to take advantage of faster network speeds.

As of now, there is no word on pricing or a release date for the Galaxy Axiom.

Does the Galaxy Axiom have you excited? Or would you rather just purchase the Galaxy S3?
