The Nintendo Wii U launches in a few days and the reviews have started to surface.
Just two days ago Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros U were critiqued by GameMaster. Now IGN has stepped up and provided their first Wii U review for Ninja Gaiden 3.
For the uninitiated, the original version of Ninja Gaiden 3 was released in March for the PS3 and Xbox 360 to miserable reviews. The title struggled mightily as the critics blasted the game for its lack of substance and its lack of true challenges. Director Yosuki Hayashi subsequently stated that the development team had tried to copy the rest of the game industry and in doing so, lost the franchise's identity.
In making the Wii U version, they took feedback and incorporated it in hopes of making the Wii U version superior. According to IGN, it paid off. The publication notes that the difficulty has been increased from the original version. "The Ninja Gaiden series has never been for the faint of heart, and players familiar with the original NG3 release will find that the game's sadistic sense has been restored on the Wii U," writes IGN's Ryan McCafrey.
McCafrey also notes that the bosses are far more difficult in this version and that players could spend up to 60 minutes stuck on each one. He also recommends that players purchase the $50 pro controller because the GamePad is not the ideal fit for the fast paced game style of NG3.
Visually he notes that it is not on par with the PS3 or Xbox 720 versions but that the frame-rate is consistent.
The publication ultimately gave the title a 7.6 out of 10 and noted that while the difficulty may lead to outbursts of frustrations, the title's difficulty is refreshing and rewarding.
