Is the upcoming Surface Pro 4 a MacBook slash iPad killer?

That's what a growing number of tech pundits are speculating in the past months, especially considering that Microsoft has not announced the said gadget yet or even talked about its arrival. There's also the observation that each new Surface Pro appears to come with even better features.

Since the Surface Pro 3 is already a formidable tablet-cum-laptop, the Pro 4 may be the ace card that may beat Apple at its own game.

"By reviewing each of the Surface Pro models, it grows better and better than its predecessors. Probably, this is a good reason to believe that this latest iteration of Surface Pro series could turn out to be something special," Venture Capital Post reiterated.

The site also said that it's suspected the upcoming Microsoft slate may be released October this year. The new iPad has also been rumored to arrive this fall.

"The upcoming Windows 10 OS is launched July 29th and it is expected that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will be running Windows 10," the site went on to say. "Microsoft has placed 256GB solid state drive (SSD) order from Samsung Electronics. The Surface Pro series had the potential of beating all other tablets and computers in the market, sooner or later, as consumers would witness a perfect tablet-computer combination in a device."

For Apple to ensure its top spot in the tablet race, it should make "a big splash with the iPad Air 3" or else it would "fade away like the iPod," The Motley Fool said.

"The iPad Air 3 could be powered by a quad-core A8X or A9 processor, compared to the three-core A8X chip in the iPad Air 2," the tech news portal said. "Like the updated Air 2, the Air 3 is expected to have 2GB of RAM and a 9.7-inch screen, but Apple might replace the entry-level 16GB model with a more practical 32GB device."

It has been rumored that the Pro 4, at 12 inches, may be the biggest tablet Microsoft has ever released. However, there also have been reports that a 14-inch model is also being developed and that both "will have a resolution of 2160 x 1440, up to 16GB or RAM, and a maximum of 1TB of internal storage."

"Microsoft is expected to replace Intel's Haswell processors with fanless Broadwell or Skylake chips. Those fanless chip designs indicate the Surface Pro 4 could be much lighter and thinner than its predecessor," The Motley Fool added.
