It has taken some time, but Samsung Galaxy S3 owners around the world have been getting their Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean upgrade over the past few weeks. Although Google is set to unleash Android 4.2 tomorrow, Galaxy S3 owners can still look forward to their handset being constantly updated, as it now seems that Android 4.1.2 and Android 4.2 updates are in the works.
According to website tgspot.co.il, via Samsung-centric website SamMobile, Android 4.1.2 is pretty much ready for a release. The upgrade could begin hitting Galaxy S3 handsets worldwide as early as this December, according to SamMobile.
Android 4.1.2 won't bring any major overhauls, but will introduce a few welcome upgrades. Google began upgrading several of its devices, including the Nexus 7 tablet, to Android 4.1.2 near the beginning of October.
Website SamMobile also revealed some more welcome news around a week ago, stating that Samsung is working hard to bring an Android 4.2 update to both the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 in the first quarter of 2013. The first quarter runs from January to March, and since many Galaxy S3s are still being upgraded to Android 4.1.1, expect the update to come out closer to March as Samsung allows users to catch up.
Those of us in the United States with carrier-locked Galaxy S3s will have to wait a little longer, however. As of now, Sprint is the only carrier that has released an Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for its Galaxy S3 customers.
Rumor has it that AT&T might roll out an Android 4.1.2 upgrade for its Galaxy S3 sometime this week or in the near future, although given the fact that Samsung hasn't even pushed out Android 4.1.2, AT&T users will most likely see Android 4.1.1.
A number of leaked Verizon ROMS show that the carrier is developing the upgrade, but given Verizon's history of releasing Android updates, expect this to take some time.
There is still a good chance that the nation's two largest wireless providers will have Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3 available before the end of 2012 in order to lure more customers and make up for the iPhone 5 supply shortage.
There is no word on a T-Mobile or U.S. Cellular Galaxy S3 Jelly update at the moment.
