The year 2015 seems to be the time for powerful smartphones. As if Apple, Samsung, Asus, and Motorola aren't making enough waves, a new contender is set to release yet another unit for the smartphone race.
OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer founded in December 2013. In April of last year, the company released their first ever mobile unit and garnered great reviews from users and critics alike.
The OnePlus One took the gadget world by storm with its sleek, ergonomic, and unique design. This signaled the birth of a new species of smartphone.
This year, the Chinese firm announced the release of the new OnePlus 2 mobile unit which is set to hit the market by July 27 as reported by Tech Radar.
To fully grasp the of this new smartphone that is making waves all over the web, we take a look at the improvements from OnePlus One to OnePlus 2 using GSM Arena's detailed specification of each device.
We first inspect the phones' body. The OnePlus One's dimensions are 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm, weighs in at about 162 grams, and can hold a micro-SIM. The successor's dimension is basically the same as the OnePlus One's but is 4 grams heavier, also holds a micro-SIM. The upside to the OnePlus 2 is that it now comes with a fingerprint scanner.
When talking about the screen and resolution, both phones are basically the same. The OnePlus 2 got an upgrade with Gorilla Glass 4 - CyanogenMod UI.
While the OnePlus One still uses Android's Kitkat operating system, it can be upgraded to Android's Lollipop just like the basic OS for the OnePlus 2. Both uses Qualcomm's chipset, but the successor will use the faster Snapdragon 810 and have no memory card slot but can be expanded internally up to 64 GB.
The main hype for the OnePlus 2, unlike its predecessor, is the 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM. According to Android Central's report, the new RAM will lower power consumption for better battery efficiency with twice the bandwith performance of the LPDDR3. While the OnePlus One uses the old non-removable Li-Po 3100 mAh Batter, OnePlus 2 uses the slightly more powerful 3300 variant.
As for the camera, the OnePlus 2 gets an upgrade of 16 megapixels from its predecessor's 13 megapixel rear camera with better resolution. The video capabilities of both is basically just the same.
Consumers already know about this smartphone's release date and has got a lot of people psyched. To add to the excitement, the phone's price tag is said to be around $450 which is more or less half the price of the other company's flagship phones.
