Persona fans rejoice as the fifth instalment of one of video games' historic series may still be released this year. All the more reason to be excited is that there will be no more waiting as the American and Japanese release is said to be on the same time, according to Masterherald.

The teaser trailer came out a few months ago and garnered quite the hype among fans.

The Persona series began back in 1996 on the Playstation. The game has sprung five more video games and few spin-offs: Revelations: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Persona 3, extended version Persona 3 FES, Persona 3 remake for the PSP, Persona 4, Persona 4 Golden for the Vita, and many more.

The previous two instalments re-invented the already loved series title in the way of its upgraded battle system, an anime-based graphics, exemplary story-telling, uncanny humour, and diverse interactions with non-playable characters.

Gamezone reports that in the fifth instalment, the main character is tied up with a gang of fellow high school students and call themselves the "Phantom Thief." Unlike the previous games, Persona 5 seems to revolve around grey area other than plain black and white.

As fans would remember, the "growth" part of the main character would include studying, working, interacting with people and many more. This type gameplay is also rumoured to be in Persona 5.

One of the most important part of character growth in the series is the "social link" system. This system was seen in both Persona 3 and Persona 4. It proves to make the main character better, faster, and stronger than before. The protagonist is only as strong as the bonds he make throughout the game, and it is expected to show in the coming instalment as well.

Katsura Hashino, the game director, confirms that the battle system will still be turn based with some minor tweaks to make in more fun. New players should not take this lightly as Persona games are known to have a high level of difficulty. Players of the previous games would know and should be more excited as Persona 5 allegedly has an even higher level difficulty.

What started out as a spin-off from Atlus' "Shin Megami Tensei" series is now critically acclaimed and one of the most awaited games. Despite being just a spin-off from a bigger and broader "Megami Tensie" universe, the Persona series continue to stand tall.

The game that was once thought to be delayed until next year, will be seen in the world market this year. The company is yet to disclose a specific date. Persona 5 is set to be released on the PS3 and PS4 platforms.
