4K 21.5-Inch iMac in the Works? Details & Rumors Here!

Keen observers have gleaned clues about the next iMac "and other interesting new products" from the code of the latest OS, El Capitan, Time reported.

The beta version for the said operating system revealed "support for a 4096 x 2304 resolution display, also known as 4K."

Similarly, 9to5Mac said that this clue could mean that the next 21.5-inch iMac will boast 4K display resolution. This line of PCs were last updated nearly 2 years ago and still are not equipped with Retina to this day. The possibility of the smaller iMac being given a higher display resolution is one that observers have been anticipating for quite a while now, especially considering that the 27-inch iMac already is a 5K resolution model.

"In addition to the 4K panel reference, which is not present in any version of Yosemite, the innards of the software upgrade include references to a new Intel graphics chipset known as the Iris Pro 6200. This new, Broadwell-integrated graphics processor launched earlier this month and would be a natural fit for powering a 4K iMac," 9to5Mac added. "References to four new AMD Radeon R9 processors (M380, M390, M395 and M395X) are also found in the beta, which could indicate additional Mac models or 4K iMac upgrade options."

Looks like Apple fans have taken to code sleuthing to scope out Apple's future plans and releases.

In addition to the resolution upgrade for the 21.5-inch iMac, it also had been reported that a file found in the beta version of the El Capitan OS hinted that Apple is creating a new Bluetooth Remote Control.

"This new piece of hardware integrates a dedicated Bluetooth wireless chip, can connect with devices via an infrared sensor, and includes a Multi-Touch trackpad with inertial scrolling support," the tech news site went on to reveal. "There is also a reference to what could be Force Touch support."

Further, it also appears the remote control can support audio, which could mean that it could accommodate inputs for Siri or even produce sound. Also, the device could support Multi-Touch and infrared, making this a new innovation by the Cupertino-based company.

The new OS X version, El Capitan, will be fully released in the fall. It features an improved Spotlight, which can now accommodate queries made in more natural language. It also features a faster and efficient Mission control and allows users to "drag windows for a split-screen view, and take advantage of new email tricks and Notes graphical links," according to PC Mag.

"In terms of performance, El Capitan offers 1.4 times faster app launching than Yosemite, two times faster app switching and email opening, and four times faster PDF previews," the publication added.
