The new Apple operating system, iOS 9, was officially introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8, 2015 for the iPhone and iPad. Users can begin upgrading to the new software by following the steps below.
MacWorld reported that an iPhone 4S or later version or an iPad 2 or later model can adequately support the iOS 9. However, some of the devices on the borderline were shown to experience difficulty in running on the new software. Experts recommend that users who own the oldest device in the category that are allowed to upgrade to iOS 9 should wait for a few days and then check for feedback and reports from other users regarding possibly slow performance. It will be difficult to downgrade from iOS 9 to iOS 8.
Based on another report by MacWorld, one way to get the iOS 9 early is to join the beta programme. Apple usually allows the public to try the beta version of iOS 9 for a few months before it officially rolls out. The beta programme is actually a test version where developers can check for glitches, cosmetic issues and other concerns. Users who wish to try the beta version of iOS 9 can register as an Apple developer and join the iOS Developer Program. It will cost $99 a year.
MacWorld also stated that users can get the iOS 9 early by joining the public beta programme. It is a new programme where Apple will be requesting public users to install the iOS 9 on their iPhone or iPad. The users are also asked to provide feedback on possible bugs and other issues spotted that need to be fixed before the official launch date. People may sign up and wait for Apple to inform them that access to the public beta is already available.
Before users download the iOS 9 beta, they are advised to back up their current device. Users must sign into the iOS Developer Center via their Apple ID. Next, they must register the UDID of their Apple device. After that, they may download the proper version of iOS 9 beta for their specific hardware. They have to unzip the file on their Mac and then connect their device to iTunes. Next, users have to hold Alt and then click the Restore iPhone button found on the Summary tab. Choose the .IPSW file from the last step and iOS 9 will install on their iPhone or iPad for a few minutes.
