PC gamers are not happy with how the "Batman Arkham Knight" PC version performs, but some users have found ways to make the game run better and even meet the 60fps goal.
According to a report by Matt Martin of VG 24/7, Steam users gave less than favorable reviews to Rocksteady's "Batman Arkham Knight" due to how it performs on PC. Some have reported that even the recently released GTX 970 can't run the game at 1080p and get a steady 30fps, something the PS4 and Xbox One versions can do.
"The bad parts are the framerate issues which are all over the place and the batmobile. The game will frequently pause or dip to sub 10 fps on a gtx 970 when entering or approaching new areas," wrote one reviewer on Steam.
It doesn't help that even major PC gaming publications have also tagged the "Batman Arkham Knight" PC version's performance issues as real, noting that it is a huge problem.
"Batman: Arkham Knight suffers from a lot of tech issues on the PC. From underwhelming performance to stuttering and asset streaming issues, this PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight is easily as awful as Ubisoft's Watch_Dogs or Assassin's Creed: Unity. No, in fact this is worse than Unity, because - like it or not - Unity at least displayed gorgeous visuals (albeit its awful LOD settings)," wrote John Papadopulos of DSOGaming.
DSOGaming, in a separate report, says that the PC version of "Batman Arkham Knight" has missing graphical effects that are included in the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, namely, Bokeh DOF, Ambient Occlusion and rain textures.
Despite all these issues, Steam users have found a way to make the game run better for those who just want to play the game at a stable framerate.
Steam user Derp has written a handy guide on how players can properly optimize the game to get better framerates.
Derp suggests for gamers to make sure that Nvidia users set the Physx options on the control panel to be on GPU, not on CPU or Auto.
He also suggested that users experiencing framedrops should edit their BMSystemSettings.ini (found in steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Knight\BMGame\Config) and make some changes to the following commands.
- Change bAllowD3D9MSAA=False to bAllowD3D9MSAA=True
- Change AllowD3D10=False to AllowD3D10=True
- Change TextureResolution=1 to TextureResolution=2
- Ingame decrease shadows to low or normal. No need to put it high, just in case to get more frames/s
- Turn off Bloom: Bloom=False
- Turn off Reflections: Reflections=False
- Change AllowOpenGL=False to AllowOpenGL=True
Depending on the player's system, these changes may allow users to get more fps from the game. But until Rocksteady delivers an official update to fix the "Batman Arkham Knight" PC version's performance problems, gamers would have to rely on these tweaks to fix it.
