Despite being one of the best-selling smartphones of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is still waiting for its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade. The smartphone currently runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on most carriers, but a leaked ROM for the Verizon Galaxy S3 indicates that a Verizon upgrade should be on the way.
The ROM is not an official update, and LatinosPost does warn against flashing your handset. The smartphone could brick, and become completely useless, and using a ROM usually means that you will lose your warranty.
"DON'T FLASH THIS if you don't know what it may do. this ain't rooted, it my re-lock your phone, it may cause another Hurricane," says the post in XDAdevelopers where the ROM is posted.
If you're still daring enough, you can download the ROM at XDAdevelopers. The build date on the ROM reads October 8. The poster JucyTec also points out that the update could be available within three weeks.
"There was another build finalized and sent to big red for approval, if it does get approved, it should OTA in or around 3 weeks time."
The only carrier that has an official Jelly Bean update out in the United States is Sprint. The carrier began rolling out the upgrade on October 25. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, C-Spire, and MetroPCS Galaxy S3 owners are still waiting.
The official Samsung US update page states that Jelly Bean is "Coming Soon!" on those carriers.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was introduced by Google back in the beginning of summer, but still hasn't released on most Android devices. Google is already up to Android 4.2 but it takes non Google-branded devices that are tied to carriers a lot longer since the networks need to tailor and approve the operating system.
