Google's Galaxy Nexus smartphone from Samsung has been a popular handset with consumers who want an Android device with timely updates straight from Google. Its success sure means a sequel is on the way, and the folks over at AndroidAuthority point out that a mysterious device that appears in a Google+ for Android commercial could very well be the Galaxy Nexus 2.
In the video, a mysterious handset appears that looks like a Galaxy S3, but clearly has different buttons. Could this be the Galaxy Nexus 2? It seems to fit the bill, although take the speculation with a healthy dose of skepticism since Google hasn't confirmed anything just yet. If it is the Galaxy Nexus 2, it looks like the next Galaxy Nexus smartphone will share design elements with Samsung's flagship Galaxy S3.
For details on where the handset appears in the video and what to make of it, check out the report from AndroidAuthority.
The Galaxy Nexus 2 was spotted earlier in the device trade-in section for Carphone Warehouse, meaning that the handset is certainly on its way, and could be released within the next couple months.
There are no official specs out there, although some sleuthing through user data has turned up the following.
The Galaxy Nexus 2, or model GT-I9260, should come with a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED display and a 1.5GHz Cortex-A9 dual-core processor. Given that it will be a Google-branded device, expect the latest version of Android to be running on the handset, such as Android 4.2 or Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
The Galaxy Nexus 2 should have 16GB of internal memory with a microSD slot for added capacity. The smartphone should also have an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9-megapixel HD front-facing camera.
