The Android L 5.1 Lollipop was recently rolled out on the Moto E smartphone model.

Phone Arena reported that the Moto E second generation handset, which is Motorola's cheapest LTE smartphone so far, can receive the new Android L 5.1 Lollipop Update. The Moto E was released in February 2015 and retails at only $149.99. The device is unlocked and comes with the Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

The Moto E also has a 3G-only type, a 4.5-inch display with 540x960 pixels, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of expandable storage space and a Snapdragon 410 processor. The device has a five-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera.

Phone Arena also mentioned that the Android L 5.1 Lollipop update was officially made available for the Moto E in the United States beginning May 13, 2015. Currently, only the LTE model of Moto is receiving the update, with the 3G variant expected to have it soon.

Android Central cited that the update has a file size of 258 MB and can be downloaded over-the-air (OTA). Gospel Herald also said that the Android 5.0 Lollipop was quite slow in rolling out among the newer types of Android phones. User demand for version 5.1 will feature it being released to the Moto E (2nd generation), Moto X (1st and 2nd generation), Moto G (1st and 2nd generation) and other Android models in the coming weeks.

PC Advisor noted that Android 5.1 is expected to be a big update, which will present a number of changes. The update will bring back the silent mode that was lacking in Android 5.0. It will also improve system stability, battery management and RAM management. Sudden app closures, sound problems and Wi-Fi problems will also be fixed. The update will include native support for than a single SIM-card, which would be advantageous for phones with dual SIM-card slots.

Furthermore, PC Advisor reported that users can join Wi-Fi networks and manage paired Bluetooth gadgets straight from the Quick Settings portion of the notification bar. Other features to expect include Device Protection which will lock the device until users sign in using their Google account, should the phone get lost or stolen. Android 5.1 will offer High Definition voice calling for crystal clear calls, although a compatible device is required for the feature.

The new update will make the Moto E a very sensible option for individuals who wish to enjoy the Android and smartphone experience without the need to spend much.
