The rumored larger Apple tablet iPad Pro is said to contain two new special materials. According to Phone Arena, these two new materials are AgNW or silver nano wire and sapphire glass.
G For Games citing the sources of news site ETNews revealed that the Cupertino giant is taking into consideration the use of silver nano wire touch panels in its upcoming devices, specifically in its next generation of iPads. The firm has been reportedly been talking to major display manufacturers such as LG Display, Japan Display, and Samsung Display.
"Reportedly, Apple intends to replace the ITO-based clear film with AgNW silver nano wire coating in order to increase touch sensitivity. Compared to previously used ITO films, the AgNW coating is more flexible and improves the touch-screen capabilities of a flexible screen. It has greater accuracy and sensitivity which allows for multiple pressure levels, even when drawing or writing with a fingertip. I don't know about you but AgNW sounds a lot like something that would work great with Force Touch - another feature rumored to make the transition to the iPhone or iPad line-up in the future," to quote the G For Games report.
Phone Arena pointed out that the new material would serve as an alternative to the frequently used indium tin oxide coating. The use of the silver nano wire, the news outlet noted, would result in lower production costs and "better profit margins for manufacturers."
Aside from the silver nano wire, Apple is also said to be working on sapphire glass, which when added to the silver nano wire touch panels, could result in a thinner and lighter device.
Here are some quotes from ET News' unidentified source:
"Apple recently requested AgNW touch-panel samples and some enterprises already delivered them to Apple. It will be first applied on large-screen iPad, which will be released next year..."Apple is always looking for an innovation by consistently changing materials. If AgNW TSP were to be commercialized next year, domestic Smartphone industries will also have to hurry their application of new materials."
