Good news to all HTC One M8 users! It looks like you'll be getting the latest Android Lollipop 5.1 update soon! Note that this is no ordinary rumor as HTC itself announced it recently.
HTC UK was the one which spilled the beans about the upcoming update. Its official Twitter account has been really active recently, answering queries from some of its fans and users.
For instance, one of its followers, a user named James McCloskey (@JKMcCloskey) asked them when's the next software update would come out.
@HTC_UK Hey, any idea when the next software/kernel update will be out on the One M8? It will fix an issue I have with @Cisco Jabber

To which HTC UK answered with no hesitations.
@JKMcCloskey Hey James, the HTC One M8 will have a Software Update for Android Version 5.1 and Sense 7 in August 2015 :) — HTC UK (@HTC_UK) April 29, 2015
Well, it looks pretty clear now, huh? Expect the new Android 5.1 as well as the Sense 7 on your HTC One M8 this August! Not only that, HTC also promised that the update would also roll out on its latest handset, the HTC One M9, though no official release dates yet.
@giorgi_alonso Hey Giorgi, the HTC One M8 and M9 will be getting 5.1 next. No other release dates have been confirmed :) — HTC UK (@HTC_UK) April 29, 2015
Another user, jurecak_M9 (@jurecak) meanwhile asked whether the US and Taiwan versions of the device would also get the update. HTC replied, "[T]hey will be getting the 5.1 Software Update next. The target month is August 2015."
So what exactly can we expect from the 5.1 Lollipop and from the Sense 7?
"One of the welcome improvements is that you can change the grip app switcher to stock Lollipop style. App reshuffling, some new widgets, BlinkFeed updates and other changes are also part of the update...Other perks like themes were added to the M8 and M7 generation with an update to the BlinkFeed app," as detailed by GSM Arena.
HTC One M7 and M8 users started receiving the Lollipop update via OTA starting late-January until early-February. HTC, through Product Management Vice President Mo Versi, earlier apologized for missing its Lollipop rollout goal, citing the fixes it needs to do with some of the update issues.
Checking for software update can be done manually. Just go to Settings, then to System Updates, then HTC Software Update, and then tap Check Now. If the update is ready, download it. After download completion, install it.
