Samsung will be rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop for its Galaxy A series.
Based on a report by SamMobile, the company will begin featuring the update on the Samsung Galaxy A3, which is at the bottom of the brand's affordable smartphone category. The Android version 5.0.2 update will be available for the A3 in Russia and other selected areas.
The firmware of the update can now be manually downloaded online by Galaxy A3 users. Others may prefer to wait for the over-the-air OTA update. The OTA notification might be released in a few weeks.
Rom-Lollipop.org reported that Galaxy A3 users may now update to Android 5.0 Lollipop using custom ROM. Below are the instructions from the site:
- Download the files then install the ROM Manager on the Galaxy A3.
- Connect the smartphone to a computer via USB cable then copy the downloaded file to the SD memory card.
- Restart the smartphone in the recovery mode via ROM Manager.
- Select backup and restore to protect information.
- Install Lollipop by following the directions accordingly then reboot the device.
The changes will be visible after restarting. Users should ensure that they enabled USB debugging and have at least 80 percent battery power during download and installation.
Android 5.0 Lollipop on the Samsung Galaxy A3 actually has a similar user interface as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and other smartphones that were provided with the latest version.
GSM Arena reported that the update on the A3 will provide improvements in performance and stability and feature the new TouchWiz UX brought by the new Material Design, enhanced battery life and more fixes and features.
Other improvements include a more powerful and faster computing experience, support for 64-bit SoCs using MIPS, x86 and ARM-based cores, realistic lighting and shadows, improved protection through SELinux and automatic encryptions and notifications being ranked intelligently. Performance of the A3 can improve up to four times, with enhanced mobile graphics via the OpenGL ES 3.1 and Android extension pack and improved HLS support for streaming.
Tech Times said that the Android 5.0 Lollipop was recently approved for the Galaxy Note 2, together with the Galaxy A series. Users of the A3, A5 and A7 should expect the update sometime in June 2015.
So far, Samsung has developed and released Lollipop in selected regions for the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S5 Sport and Galaxy S5 Active.
