Today Apple confirmed what most had believed to be true: they had been working on a smaller, more mobile iPad. The iPad Mini is sure to be compared to Google's small tablet when consumers are deciding which to get, the Nexus 7, so let's take a look at both of them.
First off, despite both having 7-inch screens, the iPad Mini is more expensive, around $130 actually. With a starting price tag of $329 it certainly is budgetary like the Nexus 7, which starts at $199.
The iPad Mini comes with a 7.9-inch LCD display that has a resolution of 1024X768 at 163 pixels per inch (ppi). The tablet will have a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. The iPad Mini has the A5 processor and will run iOS 6 upon its release.
The iPad Mini, unlike the Nexus 7, will come in Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + 4G models.
The Wi-Fi-only model starts at $329 for 16GB, $429 for 32GB, and $529 for 64GB. A Wi-Fi + 4G iPad Mini starts at $459, and increases in $100 increments with every increase in storage.
The Nexus 7 may seem slightly outgunned, and that's because it is, but that's also why it only costs $199. The Nexus 7 has a smaller 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280X800 at 216 ppi. It only has a 1.2-megapixel camera, and no cellular capabilities, just Wi-Fi. The Nexus 7 is one of the few Android devices out that that receives a direct update from Google, meaning it will always be running the latest Android version, which is currently Android 4.1.2.
An 8GB Nexus 7 will cost $199, and the 16GB model will be $249.
Which one of these two tablets is more appealing taking into account the difference between prices and specs.
