Even though Japanese giant Sony has not yet officially released the rumored new flagship device called Xperia Z4, speculations are already brewing that three other powerful devices are also on the way. According to Phone Arena, these three new devices will be the Sony Xperia Z5, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, and Sony Xperia Z5 Ultra.
Phone Arena cited Android Origin as its main source of information, or should we say rumors. Xperia Z4 has not yet been seen but Xperia Z5 and its other variants are already on the way? How does this really work? Here is Android Origin's explanation:
"Since Sony didn't announce the Xperia Z4 at the Mobile World Congress this year, many expected that Sony would not be announcing a second flagship device this year since the Xperia Z4 is expected to arrive only by the middle of the year. However, that isn't going to be the case. Sony is targeting a Q4 announcement of the Xperia Z5, along with the Xperia Z5 Ultra and the Xperia Z5 Compact smartphones."
But this is not yet final, says the news outlet, as its trusted source revealed that the release may still be delayed to January next year should the Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is expected to be in the Xperia Z5 and the Xperia Z5 Ultra, won't be available before the fourth quarter launch.
Android Origin also noted that if these rumors turn out to be true, then it proves that the reports about Sony's flagship release schedule has never been changed. Earlier, it was speculated that Sony will only be releasing one flagship device for the year.
New Design, Specs, and Features
While the Xperia Z4 is expected to have a 1440 x 2560 resolution screen in some markets, the Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Ultra, on the other hand, will use the QHD screen in all areas. Android Origin's source said the two new devices will have 4GB of RAM each. The two devices are also said to get new cameras plus a new design. It is said that the Xperia Z4 would be the last flagship device to use the Omni-Balance design, which has been the look of the previous Sony Xperia flagship smartphones.
Meanwhile, the Xperia Z5 Ultra phablet is speculated to be the first Sony device to feature a fingerprint scanner through the Ultrasonic Sense ID from Qualcomm.
"One of the major highlights of the Xperia Z5 Ultra, according to our source, will be the Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology that Qualcomm announced recently. This will make the Xperia Z5 Ultra the first Sony Xperia smartphone to feature a fingerprint sensor. The Xperia Z5 will unfortunately not be equipped with a fingerprint sensor, or at least that isn't the plan for now," to quote Android Origin.
To date, Sony has not yet commented on this new speculation.
