This holiday shopping season will likely be one of the most lucrative ever for tech companies, and Google is determined not to sit this one out. After entering the tablet market with the Nexus 7 tablet earlier this year, it looks like Google will be releasing a new 32GB model in time for the holidays.
The Google Nexus 7 is currently only available in 8GB and 16GB versions, and the increased memory capacity should be a welcome option for consumers.
The latest 32GB sighting comes courtesy of AndroidPolice, which found a 32GB Nexus 7 listing in Staples Advantage, the Staples site for business users.
AndroidPolice reports that a search for "Nexus 7" now turns up three matches - the 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models. Oddly enough, the 32GB Nexus 7 is actually cheaper than its 16GB brother - by a whole $3.12. Staples has the 32GB Nexus 7 priced at $248.37, the 16GB Nexus 7 at $251.49, and the 8GB model at $200.99.
The pricing scheme suggests one of two things: either the 32GB Nexus 7 might replace the 16GB version, or that Google will bump the 16GB model down to $200 and keep the 32GB at $250. Either way, it's good news for those looking to purchase a Nexus 7, and slightly dissappointing for those who bought the 16GB Nexus 7.
U.K. retailer Argos will also be including the 32GB Nexus 7 in their holiday shopping guide - one of the first hints that the Nexus 7 would be getting a 32GB iteration.
"We've been told by someone with close links to Argos, the popular high street UK retailer, that the 32GB Nexus 7 will appear in its Christmas gift guide, which will be launched this week," says ITProPortal.
All the other specs all seem to be the same as the other Nexus 7 models, with the increased storage capacity being the only key difference. A 4G Nexus 7 was rumored to be in the works, but no concrete details have surfaced as of yet.
