It isn't official yet, but rumor has it that on October 23, Apple will be hosting an event that will finally lift the curtains on the Apple iPad Mini. But that may not be the only device up Apple's sleeve. The usually reliable Apple-centric website 9to5Mac is reporting that a new, redesigned Mac Mini will also be making a debut.

The new Mac Minis will come in three models.

"Sources say that these Mac minis will come in two standard configurations, with different storage and processor options, and a third model that runs OS X Server," writes 9to5Mac.

The new Mac Minis should have a newer chipset as well as USB 3.0 support. The report also states the the Mac Minis will be available for purchase immediately after its unveiling on October 23.

Apple was expected to send out invitations for the October 23 press conference on October 10, but it seems that nobody has officially received one yet. Website AllThingsD reports that the event will still take place on October 23, citing "people familiar with Apple's plans."

The conference won't be as high-caliber as the iPhone 5 unveiling back in September, but will come at a key time. Not only is Microsoft's Surface tablet set to debut on October 26, Apple is also expected to disclose its earnings report on October 25. An iPad Mini/Mac Mini unveiling could give Apple a boost heading into the busy holiday shopping season.

The iPad Mini is expected to have a 7.85-inch LCD display and be slightly thinner than the current iPad 3. No word on the prices on these two products, but expect the Mac Mini to begin around $599, the price of the existing Mac Mini model, and the iPad Mini to be in the $299-$399 price range.
