Winter Storm Thor is in the homestretch, bringing an amalgam of sleet, snow as it works its way up through New England.

Heavy rain caused flooding in parts of Kentucky and Virginia, the former tallying a two-day record 20 inches of snow in Lexington that stood since World War II. Radcliff saw 25 inches while Baizetown felt 23 inches of snow, respectively.

Drivers trapped along Interstate 65 and 24 waited as long as 12 hours for assistance, brushing snow piles as they built up aside car doors. Multiple stretches of the freeways remained closed Thursday morning as rescue crews worked to reach stranded motorists.

Record-breaking cold will hit the South through Friday. Dallas, Little Rock, and Memphis are among the cities expecting historically-low temperatures. Memphis, whose lowest temperature for a March 6 is 20 degrees, expects a low of 11 tomorrow. In New York, a plane skidded off the snow-covered runway at LaGuardia Airport. Delta flight 1086 was landing from a trip to Atlanta when it struck a chain-link fence before coming to a stop at Flushing Bay. All 127 passengers - including New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell - and five crew members evacuated safely.

Thor isn't leaving without leaving one last devastating blast. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through Thursday night along the eastern seaboard with snowfall ending soon after. In many cities, wind chill advisories are in place into Friday. Boston just went through its snowiest month ever, receiving more than 8 ½ feet of powder since Thor and last week's Winter Storm Sparta dusted the area.

School, government, and legislature in the Northeast were shut down at the tail end of Thor's destructive trek.

Single-digit temps give way to spring-like conditions throughout the weekend as mid-Atlantic regions reach the mid-20s to 30s. By the time Daylight Savings takes effect, snow will have started melting and afternoon temps hover around 40-50 degrees in place like Washington D.C. and New York City.
