If the recent flurry of Samsung smartphones hasn't been enough for you, here's another kicker. Not only is there a scaled down (literally) Galaxy S3 called the Galaxy S3 Mini, but it looks like there's a more powerful Galaxy S3 Alpha.

Japanese carrier Docomo is introducing both the Galaxy Note 2 phablet and the upgraded Galaxy S3 Alpha to its consumers.

The new Galaxy S3 Alpha will feature the same Exynos 4412 chipset as its international brethren, but this time around the quad-core processor is clocked to 1.6GHz. It also comes with 2GB RAM. The Galaxy S3 Alpha also has the multi-window feature that is only available on the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Oh, and the Galaxy S3 Alpha will come with Android Jelly Bean right out of the box, unlike the normal Galaxy S3.

For comparison, the normal international Galaxy S3 variant comes with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM. Everything else about the Galaxy S3 Alpha is the same.

The Galaxy S3 Alpha sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280X720 pixels. It also comes with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.

Keep in mind that the international Galaxy S3 comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is currently in the process of being updated to Jelly Bean. Only a handful of countries have the update as of now, but more are on the way. For those in the United States, the official Samsung update page lists the Jelly Bean update as "Coming Soon!" As vague as that is, you can bet that Samsung will push for the carriers to distribute the update before the end of 2012, in time for the holiday season.
