The first wave of Windows 8 devices will be available for pre-order on October 21st, according to a Verge report that cites "sources familiar with AT&T and Microsoft's plans."

The Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X phones, along with the Samsung Ativ Smart PC and Asus Vivo Tab RT tablets will spearhead the Redmond-based company's push to get their new OS in the hands of consumers. The phones will launch in early November, and the tablets on October 26.

The site contacted a Microsoft spokesman, but was only told that "Windows 8 phones will be available to customers later this year."

Prospective consumers should keep in mind that the Lumia 920 is AT&T exclusive, while the Lumia 820 will be available for both AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers.

CNET reports that the HTC One X+, Windows Phone 8X, and One VX will be offered by AT&T, although no exact release date was given.

Keith Lorizio, Microsoft's U.S. sales and marketing vice president, recently shared that the company expects 100,000 apps on the platform within the first handful of month's after the Windows 8 launch. In an interview with Beet.TV, he states: "Every publisher who adds an app into the porfolio of apps we have in the marketplace...we will work with them in order to execute a deal so they can take a share of the revenue for the ads that we sell on to the network, and the same ads will appear across the network of advertisers, and the most unique thing...will be a common look and feel."
