As the tablet wars heat up, competitors are looking to fill in the gaps left by their lineups. Amazon's latest Kindle Fire HD series offers not only a 7-inch, budget version, but a larger, 8.9-inch high-end model as well. Even Apple is rumored to be prepping an iPad Mini to give consumers a smaller, cheaper option to the regular $499 iPad. Now, it looks like Google will be entering the high-end 10-inch market with a new Nexus tablet.

Tech website CNET reports that Google is working on a 10-inch tablet with Samsung. The tablet is expected to be a direct competitor to Apple's new Retina iPad, or iPad 3.

"It's going to be a high-end device. They'll partner with Samsung and cobrand it with Samsung," Richard Shim, an NPD DisplaySearch analyst, told CNET.

This won't be the first Google-Samsung partnership. The two have teamed up for Google's Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

The new Google-Samsung tablet will reportedly sport a resolution of 2,560X1,600, giving it 299 pixels per inch (ppi), according to Shim. This will give it a crisper display than the Retina iPad's resolution of 2,048X1,536 and 264 ppi.

Bear in mind this new high-end Google tablet has not been confirmed by either Google or Samsung. Shim has been an analyst for 15 years, however, so we can give his information a decent amount of credibility since he claims it comes from "supply chain indications."

If the report is true, then consumers will most likely see this tablet in the same $499 price range as Apple's Retina iPad.

Shim also claims that Google will be starting production on a $99 Nexus tablet, and other rumors indicate that a larger capacity 32GB Nexus 7 tablet is in the works as well.
