With 2015 being dubbed as the "Year of the Wearables," HTC has definitely no plans of backing down. If Samsung has its Gear smartwatch and Motorola has its Moto 360, HTC has its "Petra." Of course, we heard rumors that the Taiwanese electronics firm is indeed joining the bandwagon, working on its own smartwatch. But we never had a clear picture of what it will be.
Recently, an alleged spec sheet for the new smartwatch circulated online. It came from Upleaks. Note that Upleaks is also the one responsible for the reports on other new HTC devices such as HTC One M9, HTC One M9 Plus, and HTC A55. HTC however has remained mum about the alleged leaks.
Specs and Features
Based on the spec sheet provided, HTC's first wearable would be called "Petra." The wearable is said to sport a 1.8-inch PMOLED flexible display that has a 32x160 resolution. It is said to weigh 23 grams and is available in three sizes -- small, medium, and large. Nothing has been said about the design. The leaked details however noted that it would be water- and dust-proof. Phone Arena added the new wearable will also be shock-proof.
It is expected that the new wearable would get an ST Micro STM32L151 chipset. It is also rumored to be powered by HTC's very own RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) and not by Android Wear. But it also works with Android phones with Android 4.4 or higher and Apple devices with iOS 7.0 or higher.
It also has a strong battery as it lasts for more than three days and is chargeable via POGO Pin or USB. It also has Bluetooth and GPS. Aside from this, the smartwatch is also said to come with an alarm clock, timer, stopwatch, music control, sleep and sports analysis, scheduler, weather, and phone notifications.
The new wearable is said to be available on several colors -- teal, lime, black, blue, and gray. The spec sheet says the new device would be launched in the first quarter of this year. It is expected to be available worldwide but will first hit the American markets.
Tech Radar says it expects to get a glimpse of the new wearable at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This is seconded by Phandroid, even suggesting that it could come out alongside the rumored HTC One M9 and HTC One M9 Plus.
