It looks like Apple would be keeping its 8 megapixel camera in its upcoming iPhone. In its report detailing this new revelation about the rumored iPhone 6S, Mac Rumors cited news outlet Taipei Times' source, an analyst named Jeff Pu.

Here are some parts of the Taipei Times report:

"Pu said that the camera specifications of the next-generation iPhone, dubbed iPhone 6S, will stay the same as the current iPhone 6 at 8-megapixels, limiting potential catalysts to push Largan's stock price higher in the second half of the year.

"Pu said that although the migration to 8-megapixel and 13-megapixel lenses would remain strong among Chinese vendors of mid-tier and low-end phones, upgrades to 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel lenses for flagship phones would be slow given the limited supply of CMOS sensors - used to convert light into electrons."

Instead on focusing on the megapixels, it is likely that Apple would introduce new features on its iPhone's camera such as optical image stabilization and fast autofocus, Pu said. However, this slow transition, he adds, would result in "limited earnings growth" for Apple's camera lens supplier Largan Precision.

BGR calls this news as "the first disappointing rumor we've heard about the iPhone 6s," especially to those who want higher camera resolution. Despite this low megapixel count, BGR still thinks that the next iPhone would still take beautiful photos just like the recently released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus which also has an 8-megapixel main camera.

'Biggest Camera Jump'

This new piece of information is contrary to earlier reports that the next iPhones would probably get the "biggest camera jump ever." Last year, it has been revealed by Daring Fireball's John Gruber (via Know Your Mobile) that the next iPhone's camera would be amazing as it would have "some kind of weird two-lens system" and have a DSLR quality imagery. So who's telling the truth? We don't know yet for sure.

Another cool feature being eyed in the next generation of iPhones is the facial recognition, according to an earlier report of Design and Trend.

According to Mac Rumors, the new iPhone 6S would look like the iPhone 6. It is also expected to boast of its new A9 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and other new features like Touch ID and Apple Pay. Buyers could choose from 16 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB storage options of the device. It is also likely that it would be available on its usual three colors -- Gold, Silver, and Space Gray. The report also suggests that it may also come out with a much larger version which may be called iPhone 6S Plus.

Stabley Times earlier predicted that there will be two iPhones coming out this year. These are the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7. The report said the iPhone 6S would come out alongside the Apple Watch in spring while the iPhone 7 will be out in September. Note that Apple has consistently released only one handset per year. But this obviously came to an end when it released its iPhone 5S and the cheaper iPhone 5C in 2013 and the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last year.
