Android 4.2 Showing Up In Server Logs; Features Rumors Turn Out To Be False

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is still rolling out slowly across devices, with the latest high-profile handset to receive it being the Samsung Galaxy S3. Future Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 Mini will probably launch with Jelly Bean but that hasn't stopped people from talking about the next Android 4.2.

Android 4.2 has been dubbed 'Key Lime Pie,' although there is no confirmation from Google about this. Android 4.2 might simply be another incremental upgrade, with a full blown Android 5.0 upgrade next year that will be called Key Lime Pie, so for now we will simply refer to the next version as Android 4.2.

A report released by AndroidandMe in early October claiming to reveal the features of the next Android were proven to be false. But for those curious about what they were, they included a Project Roadrunner that was to improve battery life, a customization center, and an improved Google Now. 

These seem like natural upgrades, so there is still a chance that these are the features that Google is working on - we just have no solid evidence for them at the moment.

The most compelling piece of evidence for the existence of Android 4.2 comes from site AndroidAuthority, which has spotted devices running Android 4.2 in its server logs and Google Analytics. Some devices spotted were the Nexus 7, the Galaxy Nexus, and even some Samsung and Sony handsets.

The devices running Android 4.2 apparently began visiting AndroidAuthority in mid-August, with a recent spike. 

Rumor has it that Google will be making at announcement with LG at the end of October, possibly at the Dive Into Mobile conference hosted by AllThingsD. This could merely mean a new Galaxy-branded smartphone with LG's help, but it could also introduce a new Android operating system. Stay tuned to LatinosPost as details begin to surface.
