Good news to all Microsoft Surface Pro laplet fans! This could be the best time to purchase your own Surface Pro 3 laplet as Microsoft has cut its price by $100.
According to CNET, customers can now get a 128 GB Intel Core i5 model of the laplet for only $899; 256 GB Intel Core i5 model for $1,199; 256 GB Intel Core i7 model for $1,449; and 512 GB Intel Core i7 model for only $1,849.
It noted that only these models got price cuts and that the entry level 64GB i3 version is still at its $799 price tag. The promo also comes with free laplet sleeves. The $100 discount promo will end on Saturday, but the free sleeves will remain on every purchase of the laplet until April 5. You can buy the laplet through Microsoft's online store and in other retail outlets in the US.
At 2.4 pounds and 0.55 inches, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is thinner and lighter than the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air which weighs 2.96 pounds and is 0.68 inches thick. It is also has multi-touch display but has a detachable keyboard. Check out this video comparing the two devices:
Could this price cuts indicate that the launch of the rumored Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is already nearing?
The Motley Fool earlier reported that the new Microsoft laplet may be released this February or the following month. It also predicted that the device would probably be "short-lived" since it would be nothing but just an enhanced version of its predecessor. It speculated that very little changes and improvement would be seen in the new device. It can also be noted that this may be a reason for the company to slash and drop the predecessor's price.
The report says that the new device will get new Broadwell chips. Note that previous Surface Pro 2 and 3 have Haswell processors on them. Of course, these new chips will indeed improve the device's performance. It is also possible that another Microsoft laplet may come out shortly after the Surface Pro 4 launches.
Another improvement being eyed on the new device is that it would be LTE-capable. It noted that this is possible, considering Intel's prediction that 15 percent of PCs will soon support cellular data connections by 2018. In the past, Microsoft has not yet released a "high-end" Surface Pro tablet that is LTE-capable. However, if the new device indeed includes this feature, then a cost increase for Microsoft and price increase for the device would be very likely.
Christian Today also reported that it is likely that the new device would be available in two sizes -- a 13-inch or 14-inch one and an 8-inch one. The report also mentioned that an upgrade in the device's RAM can be expected. The current Surface Pro 3 has an 8 GB RAM. Microsoft has yet to confirm these rumors.
