Talks surfaced that a sequel of "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance", is in the works after what appear to be hints to a sequel were spotted in a trailer for PlayStation 4 games presented at the 2015 Taipei Games Show.
IGN reported that a NeoGAF user saw a design which was quite similar to the logo of "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" with a number two. The image was seen for a short while in an archived Twitch live stream and placed between "The Order: 1886" and "Driveclub", around 2:46:39 of the video.
According to Kotaku, Hideo Kojima, head of Metal Gear, did not mention anything about a "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Part Two" thus fans have become quite curious about the "2" following the game title on the Sony trailer. Late in 2014, Kojima tweeted that he visited Platinum Games, which stirred conversations that they are indeed preparing for a sequel. Kojima met with Tatsuya Minami, CEO and President of Platinum Games, although no details were revealed about their discussion.
"Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" is an action-oriented spin-off of the "Metal Gear Solid" series. The game was created via a collaborative effort between Kojima Productions and Platinum Games, which also made a reputation for the "Bayonetta" series. The game was playable on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when it launched in 2013 and was well-received by gamers.
However, on February 1, news that the sequel for "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" was not true came out. Geoff Keighley, who is close with the staff of Kojima Productions, quashed the rumors and speculations saying there was no connection between what fans saw at the Taipei Games Show and a potential sequel.
Keighley tweeted, "Slice that rumor: No Metal Gear Rising 2 tease at Taipei games show. Spoke to @Ken1555 from @Kojima_Pro_Live, it is not true."
When a fan asked what the number two was about, Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi of Kojipro replied that his team does not even know what the teaser refers to, except that it comes from the publishing arm of Sony games, SCE.
Ken-Ichiro replied, "We don't know. Sounds like it just a countdown number "2". It's SCE made trailer."
VG247 wrote that if fans read all of Ken-Ichiro's answers, he explained that the numbers "one" and "three" were also included in the video clip's audio, suggesting that it was only a countdown of some sort. Although the numbers were not in the visuals, it may have been a promo for the Sony booth set up at the Taipei Games Show.
Let's look back the trailer from two years ago.
