The much-awaited Android L 5.0 Lollipop update will now officially roll out to the LG G3 in the US.
The news came directly from LG. On January 23, LG USA Mobile announced through a photo shared on Twitter that users of its current flagship device, G3, in the US will finally get a taste of the Lollipop update real soon. The photo shows 10 lollipops that has the letters spelling out the words "COMING SOON." It is also accompanied by a sentence which states, "Life with your LG G3 is about to get sweeter."
AT&T also announced that its LG G3 subscribers in the US will also get the update pretty soon. It announced on Twitter, "Sweet! Coming soon: The #LGG3 is updating to Android 5.0 Lollipop."
Both LG and AT&T have not provided the exact date for the roll out of the new Android update.
Meanwhile, Master Herald reported that LG is currently conducting talks with US carriers and retailers to know which handsets are currently in the American market. Could this mean that other LG devices will also soon get the new Lollipop update?
In early November, LG announced that its G3 smartphones in Poland will be the first ones to get the new operating system. "LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority...The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is," LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company President and CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park was quoted as saying in the statement.
Other areas where LG G3 users already received the update include South Korea, other European countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal. The update has also reportedly rolled out in India, Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, and UK.
BGR notes that LG should already roll out the update on the G3 users for them to shift to their next flagship device, the rumored LG G4.
Several rumors about the new LG flagship device have circulated online. There's the one that says it will have be a 5.7 inches phone with HD display resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels that will boast of its 16-megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 5.1-megapixel front camera. Then there's another that says it will probably be a 5.3 incher phone with a stylus pen, 4 GB of RAM, and 20.7 megapixel camera. To date, it is not clear what the new device would look like and what specs it will have as LG has not yet issued an official statement confirming the device.
